Past Use By or Best Before date?

The common question of can you use food past the Use By or Best Before date continues to pop up, and rightly so.

To summarise:

1. Use By dates are typically for perishable foods (meats, dairy, sandwiches etc) often refrigerated foods.
It’s microbiologically focussed to keep foods safe to eat. So you should stick to the dates.

2. Best Before dates: are indicators for less perishable foods (dried pasta, cereals, crisps and bakery goods etc). It’s more quality focussed for freshness rather than microbiological for safety.

It’s always best to be food safe in your business and follow the instructions.
